The Catholic Hymnal and Service Book

I showed up to my office today (Mondays off), to find a large box of music sitting by my door- apparently that had been discovered in the parish center basement as part of a "document purge". Found some fascinating stuff here (including Marty Haugen's "Agape" pseudo-liturgy) but of personal intrigue was a hymnal entitled "The Catholic Hymnal and Service Book", which looks to be a publication of the Archdiocese of New York in 1966. It looks to be a fairly solid collection of hymns and chants, and is highly indicative of the turmoil in this time period. The "vernacular liturgy" translations are unlike any I've heard before (perhaps because there was no official one at this point?) and it seems like the editors basically included everything necessary for the TLM, but also with the expectation that big changes were underfoot.

Does anyone know more about this hymnal or its creation? It's certainly a nice little artifact of a complicated period in church history.
