St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, the largest parish in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston with over 10,000 families seeks a talented and motivated graduate student with a passion for musical excellence and love for the sacred liturgy, who desires to expand their parish organ playing and choral conducting while pursuing the Master of Sacred Music degree at the University of St. Thomas. A stipend has been committed to this internship, which is scheduled to begin summer 2019, and includes a half standard tuition scholarship for the MSM at UST available for the right candidate. The successful candidate will serve a vital role in the parish music program, playing for the Sunday 10:30 am and 12:15pm Masses as well as major feast days, rehearsing staff singers, accompanying for the thriving school music program at large concerts, developing solo organ repertoire, and developing hymn-playing and accompanying techniques for choral groups. The parish has a Moeller and Sons pipe organ on which the organist would have access to practice and perform recitals. Both the parish and Classical school music program are thoroughly grounded in the rich treasury of sacred music of the Church’s tradition. The organist is expected to program and accompany Gregorian chant, polyphony and hymnody from the sacred treasury, and to work with the pastor and school music teacher in their programming.
