Dir. of Music: Immaculate Heart of Mary, Auburn, ME (FT) - New Organ & Lumen Christi Missal/Hymnal
  • Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Auburn, Maine, is accepting résumés for a full-time parish Director of Music.

    This parish is the new home for a 1954 Casavant Freres pipe organ which is currently being restored. In addition, the parish has recently purchased the Lumen Christi Missal and Lumen Christi Hymnal for use in one of its churches, and the Journeysongs hymnal in the other.

    Responsibilities will include:

    * Recruiting for, directing, and training the parish’s three adult choirs.

    * Recruiting, training, and scheduling parish cantors.

    * Providing music at funerals and weddings for a fee as needed.

    * Providing organ accompaniment at parish liturgies.

    * Musical planning and preparation for all liturgies.

    * Attending to the maintenance of the musical instruments in the parish—especially the parish’s new pipe organ.

    * Developing the musical/cultural life of the parish through seasonal concerts, organ recitals, and musical educational opportunities when possible.

    Qualified applicants will possess:

    * Appreciation, knowledge, and understanding of liturgy and the authoritative liturgical documents of the church (e.g. Sacrosanctum Concilium, Musicam Sacram, etc.) and her musical heritage—especially plainchant.

    * The ability to play the organ competently.

    * The ability to sing and coach singers (especially in a choral setting).

    * The ability to patiently direct and teach volunteers who are new to chant and choral music.

    * An ability to work and collaborate with the pastor.

    * Flexibility, dependability, and punctuality.

    * A Love for prayer and liturgy.

    Compensation includes a base salary, benefits, and first-refusal of weddings and funerals.
