Are the Preces sung?

    Hello all,

    I'm planning for a Solemn Pontifical Vespers coming up soon. It will be on a Feria of Lent, and as such, the Preces will be included. In looking through the resources I had available, I was not able to find a sung version of the Preces, which leads me to ask, would the Preces even be sung?

    The Antiphonale Romanum (1912), in the common tones section having to do with versicles, says:

    Item, Preces feriales ad Laudes et Vesperas non cantantur, sed dicuntur recto tono, nisi contraria adsit consuetudo.

    This comes right after the paragraph describing how the confiteor is said "voce recta et paulisper depressa", so when I've had to sing the ferial prayers for my Lauds blog project, I've always done them in the same manner, recto tono at a low pitch.
