Is it appropriate and within the character of Advent to employ the Zimbelstern from time to time during the season? Do the timbre and character of the sound have connotations which are too joyous? What do you think?
I think if one follows MS66 to the letter and doesn't use any organ instrumental music the rest of Advent, using it for a Baroque prelude on Gaudete Sunday wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility... but just using it randomly on hymn verses would probably be out of character with the season.
I will use it at Midnight Mass, but not before then. However, I will include a postlude on "Pink Sunday" - I generally don't play them on other Sundays of Advent.
