Hi all, I'm looking for several short motets or chants for post-communion for my relatively capable choir. We will definitely chant the Alma Redemptoris Mater several times post-communion through Advent and Christmas. Any ideas of other short, simpler pieces to fit there? Looking for something in English, in particular, though I can also use one or two in Latin as well. Thanks!
Advent is always such a tricky time. Much of my choir goes gallivanting around the country singing Christmas carols, so time and personnel are at a premium.
Here is my setting of "Let the Clouds Rain Down the Just One" (Rorate Caeli). A little history about this setting:
Originally, this was down a whole step, without sections A & B (the Verse and Gloria Patri), sung in Charlottesville in 2003. Sections A & B were added (for use as the Introit for Advent IV) after moving to Hudson and when I finally published it at CPDL. Since then, I've raised the pitch by a whole step, for a better fit for vocal ranges, and re-engraved the score. For motet use, especially, one may wish to omit Sections A & B.
The Chant In Splendoribus is rather beautiful and possible for most chois. A vision with verses can be found in Ric's Communio on this site. Rorate Caeli is a classi as well.
I think Jonathan K made a good edition of it with the order starting with O come O come Emmanuel. Once you've got the tune though, you can sing whichever you like.
