Mater Misericordiae Catholic Church, 1537 W. Monroe St., Phoenix, AZ, has an immediate opening for a tenor section leader. Requirements: straight-tone singing with strong projection and good ensemble blend, excellent music reading skills and pitch accuracy, availability for Christmas Midnight Mass and Holy Week services in addition to scheduled Sunday Masses and weekly rehearsals throughout the year. Preferred: sufficient keyboard skills to lead occasional sectional rehearsals. The mixed choir is usually scheduled to sing for the 11:00 a.m. Mass two or three Sundays per month, and rehearsals are usually held every Tuesday, 7:00-8:30 p.m. Compensation is $25 per hour for approximately three hours per week on average and does not include benefits.
Additional compensation is possible if also available to participate in the men's schola cantorum, which sings every Sunday plus 6:30 p.m. First Friday, holy days, weddings, and funerals, with two weekly rehearsals: Wednesday, 7:15-8:30 p.m., and Saturday (except first Saturday of the month), 8:45-10:00 a.m. The ability to sing Gregorian chant from the traditional square notation (or willingness to familiarize oneself with this notation as quickly as possible) is required to join the schola.
