    While we only got mensural notation by repurposing symbols devised for other purposes, I don't really approve of using hollow reciting notes for single notes that can be lengthened with dots, and I'd dumb-down the pes, if I had to, with a single slash h/g which gives the l-r order but still conveys one syllable on two notes. So the page could more conventionally look like:
