The Roman Catholic parish of St. Thomas More, a vibrant and active parish of over 5,000 families in Manalapan, NJ, is forming a position for an Assistant Organist. St. Thomas More Sacred Music is seeking a talented, driven individual to assist in providing musical accompaniment for weekend as well as weekday liturgies. The individual will work collaboratively with the Director of Sacred Music (DSM) and the Pastor to continue building a program committed to the musical excellence and spiritual virtue of the parish community. The unique location of this large parish in central New Jersey allows for regular collaboration with artists in the tri-state area, in particular musicians from many of the area’s colleges and conservatories.
The ideal candidate would possess the following qualities:
- Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church. - Holds (at minimum) a Bachelor's degree in music. - Has (at minimum) two years experience in a related field. - High level of skill in playing both organ and piano, as well as in singing and vocal training. - Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with a variety of age levels. - A working knowledge of traditional Catholic music and Catholic liturgy. - A preference for classical music and organ works. - Ability to work with Director of Sacred Music (hereafter, DSM) and Pastor regarding musical selections for liturgies. - Ability to speak, read, and cantor in English. - Ability to cantor and lead congregation from organ/piano. - A pastoral, prayerful person committed to personal and professional growth. - Computer competence, with easy access to email and Google applications.
