I can't find the thread where I brought this up some time ago, so will start again. Several months ago my son, our parish organist, volunteered to play at all the Masses where computer-generated "music" is being used in an attempt to displace the wretched stuff with the organ. He was told it's diocesan policy that no one who works for pay at a job can volunteer for that same job (we won't go over again why this makes absolutely no sense in our situation). Can someone explain to me how it is "legal" to play recorded "music" in place of the organist, thereby depriving him of work?
Also, can a family bring in their own organist for a funeral instead of using the parish organist?
When is it appropriate to raise such questions with the diocesan office instead of the parish?
