>We had nearly fifty confirmands who were confirmed at three pontifical high masses this week end. >For those who may be unaware, the designation 'Whitsunday' is historic in England, the Anglican world, and some other northern realms. It is so called because of the white garments worn by confirmands and newly baptised on this day, Pentecost. In many areas confirmations and baptisms historically took place on 'Whitsunday' as well as on Easter. Sometimes 'Whitsunday' gets shortened just to 'Whitsun' - hence 'Whitsuntide'.
