The individual in this position is responsible for teaching general music to middle school students, offering an innovative music theory and music history curriculum that aligns with the school's mission, and conducting a fifth through eighth grade choir, which includes rehearsal planning, repertoire selection, voice building and musicianship training. Additionally, the individual is responsible for teaching a beginning violin class to second and third grade elementary students in a group setting, and conducting a beginning string orchestra for older students with a vision to expand the program. The individual also assists the Director of Music with administrative duties, including the planning of performance tours, scheduling after-school instrumental lessons with private teachers, the audition process of prospective students and other elements of the Cathedral and Choir School musical life. The position may also include singing opportunities at The Cathedral of the Madeleine. Strong keyboard/piano accompaniment skills are necessary. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in music or music education and two years of teaching experience are required.
