    Hello forumites:
Does anyone here know well the Faure Messe Basse?
I am thinking of trying this for TBB choir, and I wonder if it would work, sung an octave down. Some SAA music seems to work for TBB.
  • I know it was originally written for fishermen, and elaborated upon by his student Messager. So it should be good for dudes.

I do not think so. Having done it 4 times with girls (as in young girls), the textures do not lend themselves to TTB singing. I know,it was "La messe des pecheurs" in a previous iteration, but I think the voicing is so strongly that for girls voices ( or young boys) that TTB singing would sound foreign to me.

    YMMV
  • The thirds are probably going to be too dark in that octave. I don't think it'd work.
  • The question for me always is, "Does it put the upper voices below the bass line?" And here it does. I do the Faure Ave Verum with men all the time, and that's fine. But I wouldn't do the Messe basse.

Well I have tried it, and we have been working on it, it sounds fine. And it does not sound too dark.
