in search of a french carol
  • a musician friend has heard a D'Aquin piece and is asking if I can find her the score of the original Christmas carol on which it is based.

this is from his Nouveau Livre de Noels, Op 2, No. 2, and the original carol is apparently Or, Nous Dites, Marie
but my French is nowhere... help please?

  • I believe the carol in the Hymnal 1940 - "Saw you never in the twilight" is based on this French melody. Am I correct?

Excellent observation, Ken of Sarum!! No. 50 in The Hymnal 1940 is indeed the tune, albeit with metre and consequent stress pattern altered to 87.87.D from the original 76.76.D.
