Copyright question

If I print copies of music in the public domain, do I have to note somewhere on the music that it's public domain or list the origin of the music?
  • No. It's public domain, you can do what you want with it.

However make sure that all of the musical arrangement, the words, and the laid-out score are all public domain. The latter especially: if something has been printed recently, them the copyright on that layout still applies even if the ones on the material don't.

(Disclaimer: not legal advice, I'm not a lawyer - and it all depends on the copyright laws in your country anyways.)

British music engravers did successfully lobby for protection, but US law only protects originality. There are plenty of other venues to get copyright information; I wonder how many on this forum have day jobs as lawyers?
