Does anyone know what happened to the iChant app for apple? Silly me updated my iPad, so now the app no longer works and it is not available at iTunes. I heard the droid version is still available, so I am hoping the creators are working to bring it back to apple. There are a number of other good chant apps, but I find having an easy-to-use chant keyboard incredibly helpful for learning and teaching others. If anyone has any insight as to the situation with iChant, or is aware of a similar app, please let me know.

No, it never downloaded for me, and now on Android I get a message 'not available in your country'. Site does give an email address - mrbenjamingeorge@gmail.com

The other thread on this had a note from Chonak, that the creator? has not been visiting the Forum for some time.

I would suggest we find someone to write a new app... so does anyone here know someone?

[Admin note: bgeorge77 has been back on the forum from time to time since posting about the publication of the app.--RC]
  • I don't know if this helps because I'm unfamiliar with the iChant app...

You might IM bbloomf - he is the creator of the tools referenced in the above link.

Incardination, I was going to suggest the same since the Chant Tools app will play the melodies for the user.

Square note is great but will only play what has been uploaded from Gregobase.

Ben Bloomfield's has a lot more uploaded from Gregobase but is more difficult to use on a phone.

iChant was useful as you could input any chant...

With the update to iOS 11, Apple went to a 64-bit operating system. Any app that hasn't been upgraded to the 64-bit system won't work, and the app will disappear from your phone (several apps that I used vanished because of that.) The developer hadn't updated the app in years.

I have PM'd bbloomf and I've sent an e-mail to him about the app. Neither has gotten a response. I can only assume that he has no interest in updating the app, especially since apple charges $99.00/year to put an app in the AppStore.

  • I will follow up with bbloomf in person... and will provide a definite answer one way or the other. Thanks BHC!

  • bbloomf wanted some time to research this... he thinks there might be an app that might be able to do this. I'll follow up with him in January.
