Gregorian chant called seminarian to Catholicism
  • Catholic News Service has a piece today about a seminarian who attributes his becoming Catholic to Gregorian chant:

    Video: Video
    Article: CNS Article

The video shows the Harvard Catholic Center, which I think is St Paul's Parish, also home of the Boston Choir School.

A few years ago I had to pick up my son in Boston and went to the St. Paul's Boys Choir Concert with Britten's Lessons and Carols. It was beautiful! The voices were lovely and so was the harp!

I also was very tempted to (but I did resist) steal their hymnal which was newly printed. I was so curious what they would include or leave out.
  • One of the big moments in my, ahem, "spiritual awakening" was having the opportunity, during a production of Murder in the Cathedral, to chant the Tantum Ergo (with organum) from the Liber Oo-soo-ahl-lis - At least, that's how my British choir teacher pronounced it. I was hooked.

Correct pronunciation definitely helps wins people over!
  • "The priest sung the entire Mass,"

This is the key phrase. How often nowadays you, speaking about some Catholic Mass, would spontaneously say: the priest sung it (rather than said, held, celebrated, etc)?
