I have always thought it odd that OF funeral pericopes have to be chosen one item at a time, and that there are fewer acclamations than Gospel choices. For John 14 one might guess the Easter 5A verse would be most apt:
"I am the way, the truth, and the life, says the Lord; no one comes to the Father, except through me." and yet this is not among the options!

Do any of you have a few default 'sets'?

Not a "set" but this is the John 6:40 setting that I used for the funeral of my father-in-law a few years ago.

  • Great set. I will use it in tour of Britain with my church chorus

  • I found this recently, which pairs First Readings with Responsorial Psalms and Gospels with Gospel Acclamations.

According to that list, it seems that John 6:40 (“It is my Father’s will, says the Lord, that whoever believes in the Son shall have eternal life, and that I shall raise him up on the last day.”) is suggested to go with John 14:1-6.

My preferred text for the verse of the Gospel Acclamation at a funeral Mass is John 12:26 —

Whoever serves me must follow me, says the Lord,
and where I am, there also will my servant be.
