The week of All Souls is one of our "mini-Holy Weeks" as I've told my choir. Sunday = CTK - (Missa Cantata) + fundraising bake sale + solemn vespers (1962) and close of Forty Hours Monday = special fundraising banquet Tuesday = rehearsal Wednesday = All Saints (Missa Cantata) Thursday = All Souls (Requiem Missa Cantata) Friday = First Friday (Missa Cantata)
For the Requiem: ** pre-Mass - chanted responsory #8 from Matins of the Dead - Help Lord the Souls (text Bl. John Cardinal Newman; music by Sam Webb Jr.) ** Ordinary and Propers - Introit, Kyrie, Sanctus, Benedictus - Victoria Requiem for 4 - remaining ordinary and propers - chant full tone ** Offertory (time permitting) - Miseremini Mei (Anon) - solo vs. simple parts (text from Job) ** Communion - depending on practices, Peccantem Me (Morales) - Quid Retribuam (Ravanello) - Sitivit (Palestrina) - Ave Maria (Arcadelt) - time permitting ** post-Mass - Absolution - chant - In Paradisum - chant - Ye Souls of the Faithful (an Italian hymn tr. by Fr. Caswall)
we are "EF" so - traditional sung Requiem Mass, with Absolution. This year it is planned to be celebrated under a large tent in our cemetery, by candlelight so far as practicable. I expect it will be lovely. :-)
