My ladies group sang today and did a beautiful job. There isn't much in our library for them, so I would like to get some new music and build their repertoire. Any suggestions are welcome!
Oh, wait: you're in a Protestant community, aren't you. Lassus is still good, but you might try (instead) a piece called Prayer of St. Richard of Chichester, by ?R.H.White.
There may be a few tunes in here you can use. See post down about 5 posts. Our women's Compline Choir, Voces Angelorum has made great use of them. Beware though, as we have 5 female 'tenors' so I write for them. I find the best sound with the limited tonal range of women is music in 2 or 3 parts. Of course, the majority of 4-part harmonized tunes on the list are for SSAA. There is also a lot of realized Gregorian and Ambrosian chant on there along with mucho realized harmonized Anglican chant Psalter.
And to come full circle, below is a Giffen tune we are doing this Sunday at Compline with Voces Angelorum. I did some editing to better fit our women's voices. It is a winner by any standard. Bravo, Charles.
Fidemin, try dumping your cookies and closing other programs. Did you download my library for women's voices? If you're working at a Methodist Church, a lot of that will work. You might even consider starting your own all-women Compline Choir using the Methodist Format for Compline. It is a hit wherever it is tried. Here is Charles' tune again.
Chuck's suggestion is great. I've also written more female repertoire if you're interested. I get time in January for more writing if you want to commission something.
