Singing a Mass on Thursday, Aug. 10 - Which Propers Does One Use?

    Hello, all! I'm planning on having a special Mass on Thursday, August 10th as part of a choir camp day. What Propers should be used for that day, and where can one find those resources? Thanks!

    To allow you to get helpful answers, may I suggest that you give us more information?

    Is the Mass in the EF or the OF? The calendars don't match, so the answer will depend on this piece of information.

    Are you hoping to have Gregorian chant, some lesser other form of chant, polyphonic propers..... or just a Low Mass?

    Do you have a singing priest and/or deacon?

    True, but it’s Thursday, so you could likely sing a Votive Mass of the Blessed Sacrament. The propers might change a little between the TLM and the Novus Ordo.

    Isn't Aug. 10 the feast of St. Lawrence in both forms?

    Oh, yeah, so scratch what I said. The propers will be indicated in the Graduale Romanum.

    You might have to remind someone that the saint is the patron of stand up comedians, but that the whole of the liturgy shouldn't be an example of stand up comedy.

    Sorry, it will be an OF Mass. I am really just looking for some kind of simple 'Psalm Tone' type of antiphons. We will be singing a few motets as well.

    You could use the propers by Fr. Columba Kelly:

    Entrance Chants: http://www.saintmeinrad.edu/media/156061/Entrance%20Antiphons.pdf (p. 96 for feast of St. Lawrence).
    Communion Chants: http://www.saintmeinrad.edu/media/110095/CK_Communion_Book_2012-08-15.pdf (p. 268 for feast of St. Lawrence)

    Both Entrance and Communion Chants have an antiphon and a simple congregational refrain.
