Can anyone help me with translating the lyrics of this anonymous Marian hymn? Normally can find English translations easily with google's help, or on cpdl, but no luck with this one!
O Maria, Virgo Pia
1. O Maria, Virgo pia, Mater admirabilis; Per te Deus, judex meus, Mihi sit placabilis. 2. Commendare me dignare, Christo, tuo Filio; Ut non cadam, sed evadam De mundi naufragio. 3. Pro me pete, ut quiete, Sempiterna perfruar; Ne tormentis comburentis Stagni miser obruar. 4. Esto tutrix et adjutrix Christiani populi; Pacem praesta, ne molesta Nos perturbent saeculi.
O Mary, holy virgin, Wonderful mother; Through thee may God, my judge, Be forgiving to me.
Deign to commend me To Christ, thy Son; That I might not fall, but rather escape From the wreckage of the world.
Beg (him) for me, that in rest, I may enjoy the things of eternity; Lest unhappily, I be destroyed In the lake of burning torments.
Be thou the protector and helper Of the Christian people; Grant peace, lest the troubles Of the world greatly disturb us.
OK, yes, that is my own translation, with a few consultations of a Latin dictionary. Mostly literal translation, aside from a couple little things. I hope you can find an actual one...haha.
