It seems that in the old liturgy of the church, the alleluia was simply taken out of the liturgy and not replaced with anything else. Would it be appropriate to allow for sacred silence during this transition to the Gospel? I don't even know what the options are in the GIRM...
brandileigh: Actually, the Alleluia verse is replaced by the Tract during Lent, both in the old liturgy as well as the new. Please see this entry for the GIRM options. Hope this helps some.
