The Cathedral of St. John Berchmans in Shreveport, LA seeks a qualified individual for the full-time position of Assistant Director of Music. The applicant should possess excellent keyboard, conducting, and interpersonal skills, as well as a desire to help build a quality Cathedral music program in conformity with the official documents of the Church. Salary is budgeted between $30,000 and $40,000 depending on experience.
Applicants should demonstrate the following skills: •strong organ performance skills including repertoire, service playing (including improvisation), and accompanying •vocal skills to regularly serve as vocal model for choirs and periodically serve as cantor •experience working with children’s voices and familiarity with the Kodaly, Ward, or Royal School of Church Music methods •working knowledge of Gregorian chant •commitment to the Church’s musical ideals as set forth in her official documents •experience with music notation software (Finale or Sibelius) and Microsoft Office
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: •splitting service playing responsibilities with Cathedral Director of Music •accompanying the Cathedral Choir and Treble Choir for weekly rehearsals and masses •leading sectionals and small-group rehearsals for the Cathedral Choir and Treble Choir •conducting either the Men’s or Women’s Schola •periodically serving as Cantor •maintaining the choral library and perform other clerical tasks as needed
