Pater ..... ??

Not quite yet a composition in progress, but a vague coalescence of ideas between the ears. I am trying to confirm a Latin translation of Luke 23:34. The NIV parallel Bible gives "Pater dimitte ...", whereas other sources give "Pater, ignosce ..". Which is correct? Accepted that, if the ideas do come to fruition, either would fit & scan. Many thanks in advance.

    The Vulgate Bible is here:
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=lk+23:34&version=VULGATE

and the Nova Vulgata (the current official Latin Bible for the liturgy) is here:
    http://www.vatican.va/archive/bible/nova_vulgata/documents/nova-vulgata_novum-testamentum_lt.html

    Both say "dimitte".

I don't think it would make a change in meaning to say "ignosce", but it's always good to follow the official text.

That version is the translation 'into ciceronian latin' by Sebastian Castellio published in 1551. :
Lk 23:34 Et Jesus: Pater, inquit, ignosce eis: nesciunt ,enim quid faciant.

It must be a pre-Jerome wording... easily found (by google) in works of Augustine and Aelred.

What about the text traditionally used in the Seven Last Words?
