St. Barnabas Catholic Church, O’Fallon MO, is hiring Section Leaders to join the parish choir. The choir sings for the Sunday 10:00 AM Traditional Latin (Extraordinary form) Mass.
Section Leaders are paid a stipend for each Mass and for each rehearsal from September through Corpus Christi Sunday. They are expected to spend time on their own studying/learning/rehearsing their parts, are to act professionally while on church property, be able to closely follow directions, and be timely and punctual. Vocalists should dress professionally (with modesty) for Mass. The current time commitment is one rehearsal (Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:00 PM), and one rehearsal and Mass on Sunday (9:15-11:15 AM)—two calls per week. The choir does sing during Christmas and Holy Week, but not on other Holy Days.
Singers should be competent sight-readers, have excellent intonation, have experience reading Gregorian notation (neumes) or be willing to learn quickly, have experience singing polyphony (3-4 part, 1-3 voices per part), and be able to work well acting as a choral leader to volunteers.
Pay is competitive and start date is flexible, though an immediate hire is ideal. For more information or to apply, please contact Ryan P. Murphy, Director of Music: ryanmurphy525@gmail.com & 314-704-8819.
