I'm sure some of you would be interested in knowing what the anthem for the Centenary is like. Well, here is a link to the video-clip of the song commissioned by the shrine:
I share this here especially that you might see what the people at the shrine apparently think is the best there is to offer on such an occasion. I find it a great insult to all the great musicians in Portugal, and to Portugal's great history of sacral music; not to mention it does not seem to be the proper way to honour Our Lady.
It does not seem that there is any outcry, however, from the Portuguese. I would ask that you share this - send it to your international friends. If Portuguese artists/musicians will not call the shrine to attention, maybe those from outside will.
Catholic music worldwide has gone to perdition, to put it a bit charitably. Portugal is no exception, I am afraid. In any event, that "anthem" is terrible and, I think, parodies rather than enhances the centenary. My two cents.
The careful reader will notice that the above ditty is not an anthem for the Centenary.
It's labelled as a "hymn for the visit of the Pope".
This is the "Hymn for the Centenary of the Apparitions" (here rendered in Brazilian Portuguese): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9j2lhr5USFo While it's not the greatest thing possible, it certainly shows respect.
