    The Music Director for St. James Parish should be a person of faith who is living a life reflective of the teachings of the Catholic Church. They should have a thorough understanding of the Roman Catholic liturgy. Responsible for the effective planning, coordination and execution of music within all the liturgical celebrations of the parish and school including four weekend masses on Saturday and Sunday.

    Duties:

    - Under the supervision of the Pastor, select, plan and execute music for all parish liturgies
    - Recruit and schedule choirs/ensembles, accompanists, musicians and cantors
    - Prepare, submit and administer budget for liturgy and music ministry
    - Coordinate with Principal to select and plan music for school liturgies
    - Facilitate instrument maintenance
    - Facilitate sound system maintenance
    - Facilitate copyright licenses and usage
    - Facilitate purchase of liturgy and music materials
    - Facilitate development of worship aid materials

    Education, skills and requirements:

    - Five or more years of experience in music ministry, bachelor’s degree in music, liturgy or equivalent preferred.
    - Competency as a keyboardist including organ and piano
    - Competency as a vocalist. Must be able to lead song when cantor unavailable
    - Skilled choral director and conductor (adult and children)
    - Demonstrated proficiency in liturgical principles and familiarity with Catholic documents related to liturgy and music
    - Must maintain office hours, attend staff meetings and be available for funerals and weddings
    - Must be computer proficient
    - Successfully pass required background checks prior to employment and every 5 years.
    - Successfully complete VIRTUS training as required for employment
