Cathedral of Christ the Light, Oakland, CA: Alto section leader
  • The Cathedral of Christ the Light, Oakland, is looking to hire an Alto to join the Cathedral Schola Cantorum, the professional ensemble that supports the volunteer Cathedral Choir during regular Thursday rehearsals (7-9 pm) and Sunday morning Masses (9:00 am call for 10:00 am Mass) from September through June. The Schola Cantorum also sings for extra liturgies. Availability during Christmas and Holy Week is essential. Solo and Cantor opportunities as well.

The successful applicant will have a flexible voice that is comfortable singing a wide range of choral repertoire (including Renaissance polyphony that requires minimal vibrato), the ability to blend within an ensemble, excellent sight-reading skills, and a personable and professional attitude suitable to acting as a choral leader to volunteers. Ideally, the applicant will have experience as a cantor in the Catholic Church, and be amenable to taking on extra calls as a cantor for weddings, funerals, and other liturgies.

The Cathedral is located by beautiful Lake Merritt, Oakland, and walking distance to 19th St Bart Station. Pay is competitive. For more information and to submit a resume, contact the Cathedral's director of music, Dr. Rudy de Vos, at rdevos@oakdiocese.org.
