Holy Spirit Catholic Church (Annandale, VA) has openings for mezzo-soprano and bass section leaders/cantors. Prospective singers should have strong sight-reading abilities and musicianship skills, knowledge of plainchant notation, and the ability to work as a team player and leader for their section. Responsibilities include participation in weekly rehearsals (Thursdays at 7 PM) and a weekly choral Mass (Sundays at 10:30 AM), plus opportunities for additional calls for Saturday evening/Sunday morning Masses with cantor and organ. The position also requires additional commitments in preparation for Christmas and Holy Week liturgies, as well as availability for occasional weekday Holy Day liturgies throughout the year. Compensation is $75 for a Mass with either choir or cantor, and $50 for rehearsals, with higher rates for liturgies involving more significant preparation (Christmas, Good Friday, Easter Vigil, etc.).
The choir is comprised of volunteers and dedicated professionals committed to bringing about a high standard of sacred music within the liturgical setting for which it was conceived. The repertoire has included works by Palestrina, Victoria, Byrd, Padilla, Saint-Saëns, Rachmaninoff, and Duruflé, among others.
