Particularly in the case of the responsorial psalm (though it works for other situations), I try to do what is rubrically defined for readers (other than gospel readers): both hands on the book.
It helps.
Incidentally, deacons and priests who proclaim the gospel are to do so hands folded.
At least one hand on/holding the book, if not both, and use the other hand (a finger) to follow along the words/verses to make sure you don't skip anything. Since you don't have to project, and it also isn't a concert, you don't have to attempt to be looking up the majority of the time.
Probably looks horrible though, looks quite effective. I have a problem where because I am shorter I always have to move the mic around to get it far enough away or close enough so I can turn pages or change the volume.
