    Since this is the cathedral parish of my home state, of course I'm interested in seeing someone great end up there! In the past the job has involved some travel to play for pontifical liturgies in parishes with insufficient resources. Salary advertised is quite good: it does not appear that benefits are offered, however.

    Director of Music Ministries and Organist
    Description

    1) Responsible for all music associated with worship, religious education, social ministry, and evangelization at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph as a parish community which includes serving as principal organist for Cathedral liturgies, selecting the music repertoire, building and working with choir and cantors, and promoting a singing assembly. 2) Collaborate with Diocesan Office of Worship and Sacraments in planning of Diocesan liturgies and executing music for these events which includes encouraging participation by regional/diocesan choir. 3) Assist with on-going formation for pastoral musicians throughout the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston (the state of West Virginia).

    Requirements

    A Masters Degree in Music is preferred. Applicants must have at least 5 years working as a pastoral musician, be proficient in both organ and piano and experience in choral conducting.

    Applicants must have organizational skills, a spirit of collaboration and the ability to work well with others; possess a knowledge and understanding of the liturgy and experience in planning liturgical celebrations; embody the spirit of the Second Vatican Council and work to promote “full, active, conscious participation in the liturgy”; respect the broad tradition in Catholic liturgical music which incorporates classical, traditional, and contemporary sacred music, and have a working knowledge of Sing to the Lord document, approved by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops; the Roman Missal, third edition, and the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults as it relates to ritual and music.
