OCP GIA Mass Setting
  • What would you recommend as a mass setting from OCP, preferably included in Journeysongs 3?

    To be honest, Heritage Mass.

Easy to learn, dignified, and durable.

Yep. Heritage Mass. It may not be exceptional music, but it's worth using ahead of almost anything else that OCP has come out with.

Mass of St Gregory the Great by Luke Mayernik is wonderful and published by OCP, but I don't believe it's in Journeysongs 3. Belmont Mass by Christopher Walker, a plainchant setting, is probably the most solid choice in Journeysongs 3.
  • What about Belmont Mass? I like the Heritage mass but I don't like the ICEL chants and I kinda wanted a chant setting. What do you think?
  • I love Belmont Mass. I used it with congregation before, and they sang it very well. The Gloria is very easy to sing, and my older congregation picked up on it quickly.

There is and has not been since Proulx's Oecumenica a setting from OCP I would or have actually used. It is their Achille's heel.
Amendment- for contemporary ensemble I have and do use Hurd's Santa Clara, and have respect for his Missa Ubi Caritas, tho' it's unwieldy.
