The Pastor of St. Ann Church and Shrine in Lafayette, IN, has entrusted me with the task of finding an organist who would be willing to play an organ recital on the church's new organ. (The current music director at the parish, who is also Director of Liturgy for the diocese, is not as proficient at the instrument as she would want to be, due to numerous other liturgical concerns.) Fr. Young, the pastor, is very generous with his stipend, and would give the guest artist carte blanche as far as choosing pieces for the program. Dates are negotiable as well. If you would be interested, or would like to know more details about the organ, please send me a personal message.
I might be interested to play this recital. Can you give details about the organ? Sometimes my programs feature chant-inspired pieces with a schola singing the respective chants, or, other programs may consist of more broadly chosen examples of the repertory, or both. I have done programs of cantus firmus-based pieces outlining the life of Christ or other thematic topics. Let me know if you are interested. I'll be playing one such recital here in Houston on Low Sunday.
Well, you've heard me play the organ, and as much as I'd like to do the concert, there are others here who would serve better. Let me know if you ever want to get an orchestra together: that's something I've been trained for!
@Kevin: I'm also about 2 hours from Lafayette. However, I also lived there for most of my life.
I've had a generous response to this, gentlemen. Thank you! If this first concert goes well, I'll hopefully be able to ask more than one of you to come for a concert at some point.
I'm not terribly savvy on organ specifications (I'm a neophyte to the keyboard) but I've contacted the organ builder and music director at the parish and I'll let you know as soon as I get in touch with them. For what it's worth, the name of the building company is Classic Organs of Indiana.
Stimson, like Clerget, I am not as proficient on the organ as others on this forum, so I probably would not be a good candidate for giving a concert. However, it is possible (not yet likely, but possible) that I could be returning to the Lafayette Diocese in the next couple months. I would be most interested in coming to the concert(s) if I am in the area. Thank you for posting this!
I bring tidings of great (and swell) joy! Attached are the specifics for the organ at St. Ann's. The owner of Indiana Classic Organs, Tom Magee, will give you any further information you should need; if you want to talk to him, PM me and I'll get him in touch with you.
It is not a pipe instrument so you probably just lost Jackson's interest. That Rodgers nameplate would be like waving garlic in front of a vampire to him. LOL.
Well, gents, do I have any takers or no? I know the instrument isn't the Rolls-Royce of organs, but my priest has expressed interest in this concert for quite some time, and I know he would appreciate it.
Rodgers has the technology to build anything it wants, pipe or digital. I just recently read they have been sold to the Dutch company that makes Johannus and Copeman Hart, the Vandeweerd family. They also own Makin.
So, Father got back in touch with me - apparently an organist saw this posting on the website an got in touch with him, so we have a concert set for the Sunday afternoon before the Feast of Ss. Joachim & Anne. So, July 24th at St. Ann's in Lafayette, IN. Most likely 3pm but subject to change.
