A question for Sibelius wizards
  • Though I’ve long used Sibelius for a variety of purposes I still on occasion face a challenge that stops me in my tracks. My latest hurdle involves the insertion of those undersized notes in hymn verses that indicate how syllables varying from the rhythmic scheme are to be sung. An example would be measure 4 of the Christmas hymn "Adeste, Fideles" or throughout a contemporary standard like "Blest Are They". I should know the terminology for these notes, but don’t.

How does one insert those notes and how do they not impact the input of text in other verses? I can’t find the solution in my Sibelius manual so any help will be greatly appreciated.
  • I usually just end up putting them in Voice 3 or 4 and one of the keypad pages has the option of using smaller notes.

Enter key on the keypad, 2nd page.
  • Thanks to you both. I got it to work, though manually adjusting the text of the verse in question took some doing. If there is an easier way to do that, let me know.

Select the alternate (smaller note) and go to Create -> Text -> Lyrics, and pick the appropriate line.

If for example, the different rhythm happens on verse 3, make sure you go to Lyrics Line 3.

Also, you have to make sure that the smaller note is selected when you start whichever verse this variation is on, and it will automatically line up
