Resources needed (discrepancies between antiphons)
  • I need good articles/sources to explain to my parish priest why the texts I am using in Adam Bartlett's LC are different from what is in the Heritage Missal that is in the pew for the people (which I do not use for the antiphons). I am not articulating it well and we are in a staff meeting right now. I don't have time today to find them so any quick help would be great. Thanks!
  • V:

Off the top of my head: At times the official texts at Mass for singing are sometimes not the same as the ones that are read. Makes not a lot of sense...but that's what the church has proscribed.
  • Lumen Christi Simple Gradual, page xviii (emphasis underlined):

The texts are drawn from the Roman Missal, the Graduale Romanum, and at times also from the Graduale Simplex. … While it is beyond the scope of this simple gradual to include the entirety of the antiphon texts of these books—all of which often provide various options for a single chant—the texts that were chosen were painstakingly selected for their ease of singing, their brevity, and their flexibility.

Heritage Missal, if it is like the publishers' other offerings, includes the texts from the Roman Missal, which includes (among other things) two Communion Antiphons for weeks of Ordinary Time.
