My dad has been moved to a Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) facility. They are considering putting him on dialysis and think he may have gastric bleeding. Your continued prayers are appreciated
The hospitalist came in this afternoon and talked with my mother. In his opinion, my dad is currently doing as well as he will ever do. The ventilator is doing all his breathing, his kidneys are rapidly failing, and he is receiving all his nutrition through a tube in his abdomen. My mother has decided to give family and friends a couple of days to say goodbye to my dad and then she is taking him off life support. The doctors don't think he'll last long at all once that happens. I thank everyone for their prayers and support and ask that you continue prayers for my family.
Prayers are amazing things! Today, I took my mom to see my dad. We got to see the hospitalist (new one, came on duty for today only), the urologist (who confirmed that my dad's kidneys have almost completely failed), and the pulmonary specialist (who stated that my dad is actually improving - his pneumonia is gone and he is progressing about like he expected.) The pulmonary specialist told us that the hospitalist that was in on Saturday was acting well outside his realm of expertise, especially since that was the first time this hospitalist had seen my dad)
A hospitalist is a family practitioner or general practitioner that works for and in the hospital. He has no office and sees no private patient. The idea is that it is less expensive for the patient and the patient can receive better care than by having his regular physician visit daily. In hospitals that have hospitalist your family doctor will rarely if ever visit you while you are there.
