The thing I'm impressed with is that the DM actually programmed the Proper antiphon for Communion, while the army of EMHCs were receiving Communion first. This is normally a time of complete silence at our parish, and usually seems quite odd, especially when the antiphon could be sung while they're receiving: NOW IT IS! He asked me for ideas and suggestions. I showed him the Palmer/Burgess today, and he is using the CCWatershed versions (not sure exactly which, but that's where he said he found them). The children's schola at the school is using the Graduale Simplex, followed by Aristotle Esguerra's Choral Graduale Simplex as an English translation following the Latin. They will be singing Mass XVIII Kyrie, then Sanctus and Agnus Dei from Mass XVII. Should be a good Advent!

EDIT: The Pastor quashed the singing of a Gregorian Kyrie for the second year in a row. He does this by selecting an option of the Penitential Rite that includes the Kyrie as part of the spoken intercession, so we CAN'T sing it. I tell him this morning that we are singing the Kyrie (he's usually cool about it), but for the second year in a row, he's stepped on my toes and selected a version of the Penitential Rite that completely precludes it, and I know he does it on purpose. I asked him politely after Mass, "Would you prefer the Kyrie to be recited from now on?" He responded in the affirmative, and then proceeded to ask me to make sure to do "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" because it's Advent. We did that exact hymn after the Offertory Proper. Ay, ay, ay!

I played for a morning Thanksgiving mass and used the traditional hymns posted by many of the above. It is what I didn't hear the remainder of the day that truly mattered.
I didn't hear:

Complaining choir members.
Ringing phones - I turned them all off.
Family drama - no one knew where I was.
Blaring TV sets - they were off, as well.
Wretched committees making recommendations they could never understand.
Commerce to the extremes - Thanksgiving is the beginning of Christmas, but you knew that.

Yep, it's what I didn't hear that made the day one of true thanksgiving.

For Thanksgiving, we sang Elgar's "Fear not, O land." A wonderful, brief harvest anthem.
