Perhaps CMAA should consider establishing an annual award for "significant contributions to sacred music." I'd like to add "made in a spirit of charity," but I'm not sure about that.
This would be like other annual awards, such as the Driehaus Prize in Architecture. I would contribute to the endowment fund, and I can think of others who would, too. It needn't be an interest-bearing account, unless incoming donations to the prize make setting up an endowment worthwhile.
I can also think of at least three persons who contribute to this discussion board who would make excellent recipients.
To receive the award, the winner would deliver an address to the annual CMAA colloquium.
