Just wanting to try and connect with other musicians plugging away in this state.
I have had contact with or heard of music happening in:
St. Cecilia Schola, Auburn Latin Mass in Troy? Sister Servants of the Eternal Word, Irondale St. Peter, Montgomery
I was in the schola in Auburn (with Jeffrey Tucker and Arlene - SO FUN), but just started working at a parish in Montgomery (I could really use more singers if anyone wants to join!)
I'd love to talk with other musicians in the area.
The Cathedral of St. Paul in Birmingham has that nerdy Bruce Ludwick guy as DM... He's a weird sort, and not someone I'd recommend fraternizing with, but probably does good sacred music
Alabama is 5% Catholic - I'm sure Georgia must be about the same.
Those Sister Servants are great. I met and sang with some of them at the Ignite Your Torch Youth Conference in KY and they mailed me a whole packet of SSA music afterward. They were very kind.
Hilary, I'm at St. Paul in Birmingham. Music situation is pretty to very good for a cathedral parish, I think. Not a lot of traditional music happening around. The Sister Servants are, as you say, excellent and a fair number of boys from here serve their Masses at Casa Maria. The TLM here is mostly low Mass. You all are in the archdiocese, of course, while everything north of "the gump" is Birmingham diocese. Neither AL diocese has a diocesan music commission, so things are very fragmented. Would be nice to meet you!
I have a friend from UT-Austin days who is an excellent soprano and lives in Troy, but is also often in Montgomery: Rebecca Sanders. She is "paid quality" for sure, and she and her husband are very faithful Catholics. Cheers!
