Mater Misericordiae Mission is seeking a part-time Organist and Choirmaster to assume direction of its programs of sacred music. The mission has its own church building and maintains a schedule of daily Masses and 3 Sunday Masses, including one weekly missa cantata. Responsibilities would include directing the established chant schola, starting a mixed adult choir and children’s choir, and providing appropriate organ music for worship.
Mater Misericordiæ (Mother of Mercy) Mission glorifies God, uniting its members in faith, hope and charity through confession of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Faith and through participation in the Sacraments and Traditional Rites of the Missale Romanum of 1962, under the governance of the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix and the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter.
Requirements:
1) Sound knowledge of form and rubrics of 1962 liturgy 2) Significant experience as an organist, especially in the Extraordinary Form of the Mass 3) An active practice of the Catholic faith 4) Sound understanding of the role of a liturgical schola cantorum 5) Sound knowledge of Gregorian Propers and the performance of Gregorian Chant 6) Ability to teach fundamentals of musicianship to all age groups
Preferred additional skills: Fluency in solfege, sight-reading skills on four- and five-line staff, advanced organ skills, including ability to improvise, well-developed choral conducting skills, extensive knowledge of sacred polyphonic repertoire
