The hosting company for the CMAA web sites has informed me that there will be a scheduled service outage for system maintenance on October 20 at 9 pm ET.

The following sites will be affected:
-- musicasacra.com (the main CMAA site)
    -- forum.musicasacra.com (this forum)
-- media.musicasacra.com (the website where we store PDF files)

The outage will probably be brief, but the hosting company has reserved up to two hours for the operation.

Our other sites, Chant Cafe and New Liturgical Movement, will not be affected.

So what are we supposed to do with ourselves during that time?

We expect you to schedule fun activities to keep us entertained, Chonak.

Can you please make a parallel site so that we can still process our free music requests during that time?

I might need an essay on fonts to keep my spirits up.

Is it over yet? I feel a sense of impending doom every 16 years or so.

Maybe a Chant Cafe author can post a Service Outage article on Tue Oct 20 shortly before the start of downtime and we post fun comments to the article until a SysAdmin posts a comment telling us the Forum is back online?

As we used to say when the IBM mainframe conked out, the system will be back up in 20 minutes. When the complainer called back in 15 minutes, we repeated that the system would be back up in 20 minutes.

And it actually was about an hour.

As it happened, I needed another ten-minute downtime to transfer us to a faster server, so I did that operation at 5:30 a.m.
