So as usual, I've been tasked, at the last minute of course, to create a comprehensive copyright guideline sheet for the parish/school to use for liturgies, para-liturgies, etc. Being a music director is time consuming as we all know, and to be dumped with this sideshow project amidst everything else going on musically this month and next, there's truly no time for me. So...does anyone have one that they currently use or is there an "official" NPM one, or the like, etc. that should be used?
Um. Don't accept this. That's tantamount to giving legal advice, which (unless you're a lawyer) you're not permitted to do. Tell them to hire a lawyer.
/Purple bold, Use the Missale Romanum 1962, Graduale Romanum 1962, Antiphonale 1949, and the Westminster Hymnal. You now have everything you need, and no copyright problem (at least in the U.S.A.) /end purple bold.
The parish should ask the diocesan legal office for guidelines on observing copyright law, including issues regarding music copying for services in church and school.
