A parish Christmas song
  • I recently came upon a copy of a Christmas song that the choir sang at my old parish many years ago. I've asked our music director at church if she has ever heard of it and see has not and she said she searched on Stanton's Sheet Music website but didn't find anything. I'm thinking now that it might something that was written by the choir director at my old parish but I'm not sure and thought the forum would be the best place to ask.

The name of the song is No Room For the King. Has anyone ever heard this? I'm looking for sheet music but if it was locally produced then that won't be possible.

    Thanks

Go to google.com. Enter: "No room for the King"

    You will find many entries.

It's very, very Barbershop...the fermatas really give that away.

  • I did a Google search before coming here and none of the entries are this piece I presented here. None of the youTube videos are this piece. As far as Hymnary, org I can't be certain that this is the same song, thanks though I will check that link out a little more. Many songs go by the same name but are not always the same. Until I see the music in a hymnal or sheet form, I won't be very convinced. Barbershop? I still like it. It's good music.
  • If Lucy Carroll were still with us, you could ask her. It would be in her stack. Maybe AOZ?

It has the feel of a 1880-1945 pew hymn.
  • The hymnary.org song is in the 1919 Excelsior Hymnal and the scanned page is here - slight variation in the words of the refrain but definitely the song you're seeking. Enjoy!
