Saint Peter's Catholic Church in Columbia, South Carolina seeks an experienced Soprano/Assistant Director for Capella Pueri, an auditioned choir of boys and girls grades 3 thru 6 from Saint Peter's Catholic School. Approximately 15 hours per week Assumption through Corpus Christi: Tuesday afternoon rehearsals with Capella Pueri Wednesday morning school Mass (cantor, assist in directing Capella) Wednesday evening Gallery Choir rehearsal Friday School Prayer service and Capella Rehearsal (rotate with director) Occasional Saturday Mass Two Sunday Choral Masses; possibility for bi-lingual candidates to assist at Spanish Mass Additional compensation from admin hours, weddings and funerals
Excellent sight-reading skills and adaptability to an Anglo-European choral sound are a must. Capella Pueri shares repertory with the Gallery Choir; last season's major works included excerpts from Mozart's "Coronation Mass," Fauré's "Requiem," Vierne's "Messe Solonelle," and Britten's "Missa Brevis;" a typical season includes Mass settings by Fauré, Whitbourn, Darke, and Palestrina, and anthem repertory ranging from Byrd to Bernstein, Rutter, Parry, Stainer, et al.
