M. Jackson Osborn may be one of the list members I respect the most. His comments always are thoroughly thought out and well-written. In my mind I often disagree with him, but it is never because he is wrong, rude or out of line.
I know that my responses to his posts are frequently critical and people must think that he and I are oil and water.
But we are not. I trust and hope he knows that. People you'd welcome being stuck sitting next to on an 8 hour flight to Europe. His name is checked off on my list.
Chonak, the TYRANT who BANS PEOPLE from our BELOVED MESSAGE BOARD... but he brought me Maple Leaf Cookies from Canada, so I also appreciate his great kindness and generosity.
I think Francis is a total nut, but I also think he's brilliant and I love him. I'd spend 8 hours on a plane with him, as long as we had an empty seat between us. (I am NOT sharing an arm rest.)
I thoroughly dislike ClergetKubisz. I've heard stories about how he likes to drop-kick infants during soccer games. He spends his spare time transcribing video game music for organ, and if that doesn't earn your ire I don't know what will. I probably also misspelled his forum name, but I refuse to double-check and correct it, because I abhor him so much.
I believe that the sentiment is mutual, Noel. Of all persons on our delightful forum, it is your occasional, um, unseemly? retort that causes me chagrin. But then, my experience is that many (not by any means all, but many) people with this or that unseemly attribute are really quite admirable persons with genuine human spirits. And, we could use more people who contribute as much as you to the cause of Catholic liturgical music.
Otherwise, I am disqualified from further comment on this thread. There are none whom I 'can't stand'. I may add, though, that Adam is one of the very most enjoyable interlocutors, both amusing and informative... and, occasionally, delightfully droll.
And Chonak? How could you hate anyone who brought maple leaf cookies? I buy Canadian ones every week at my grocer's. The brand is 'Dare', and they also make very good lemon cremes and coconut cremes. (By the way - why do we over here call cookies 'cookies'? They are baked, not cooked, and should, therefore, be called 'bakies' .......if not biscuits.)
I vote, based upon FNJ's title, for melofluent. I love you all, and my affection for Jackson is the same as Noel's. I have tried the patience of others whom I truly love, Kathy most of all, Richard a close second. I have also been edified by the support of many whom I'm offended in my zeal and rash responses and who've forgiven me nonetheless. I thank God for all of you, and if He graces me, I think His face will most resemble Mahrt's.
Why would you do that!? Canada is a very beautiful country. I've been all over the east and would be thrilled to live there. Except that, maybe, or so I've heard, after the new wore off I would find myself surrounded by folk who were far more liberal than I, even than most Americans. One of the things that is so magical about being up there is that 'south of the border' means Maine and Vermont! The more north I get, the more joyful is my spirit. Too, me being a royalist, it is very satisfying for me to be in one of HM's dominions. Where do you live?
Well, yes, I brought Matthew some Dare cookies, since my roundabout route to the colloquium last year took me through part of Ontario, and he didn't find them anywhere in Phoenix.
PGA and I have gone around before, but that's mainly because I like to play devil's advocate and play up whatever side he's not, just to make the point. That being said, I do respect the fact that he always stays on topic and does not resort to ad hominem arguments. That Stimson guy, however, you just can't reason with.
DARE cookies are wonderful. In Western MA I can usually find them quite easily. Though I'm sure that those imported to the US are of an inferior quality to those in Canada.
I don't understand this thread. Cookies are called biscuits and biscuits are called scones. I am very careful with sarcasm because sometimes Americans don't seem to get it. That was not sarcasm . In Ireland the more you slag off someone, that means criticise them, the more you probably admire them. Unless you actually hate them. Then everyone will pretend you are only joking. We have a very high suicide rate.
You do realize Mr Doerr was a Lutheran, I hope. http://www.darefoods.com/ca_en/about Thanks for all you're doing to keep my local economy alive.
I lived in the States for two years while attending Yale Institute of Sacred Music and it was not an easy time. I was the envy of others because I had a snow brush in my car but I also would come out to drive somewhere and discover the battery had been stolen over night. My friend in the room across the hall disappeared after leaving a New Year's party in New York and was never seen again. I've signed up for the AGO regional convention in New Haven and will be returning for the first time in 31 years next month.
I enjoy how the comments around here can go so radically off topic. Peace out. Seriously you're all a bunch of cranks. What's wrong with Wood that he hangs out with us?
One of the things that is so magical about being up there is that 'south of the border' means Maine and Vermont!
Having grown up in Maine (with a wife from Vermont), I constantly marvel at the fact that one can drive north, completely leave civilization, and then cross a border and suddenly approach not just civilization, but old European-looking civilization (Quebec). That and poutine.
I imagine it might be good to consult this thread before putting one's forum name on the Colloquium badge, in case folks hate your guts, or worse, think you have nothing of value to contribute (I just ask that if the latter is the case with me, you might graciously pretend otherwise; the former is fine with me :)
Bonnie: I understand you completely, which I why, to be on the safe side I put Adam's name in purple. Just in case someone with no sense of humor (or humour) saw it--not that Adam doesn't have a sense of humo[u]r, he does, but someone else might not. Part of my family is Irish (that part which isn't Polish, German, or French/Canadian), and so sarcasm has always been a part of my life.
I can't believe that I was taken in by Heretical Cookies (Biscuits)! Parce nobis, Domine.
I truly appreciate Francis. I often disagree with him, but I must admit that more than once he has persuaded me to reexamine my own position. I have learned quite a lot from discussions that he is involved in, and I thoroughly enjoy that his point of view has greatly broadened my own.
. . . And while we're on the subject of JulieColl!
"SSPX France" this. "SSPX France" that. We get it, Jules - you love SSPX France. Why don't we all just move to St. Nicholas du Chardonnet, eat croissants, never bathe, smoke a lot of cigarettes, and sing the Integralist version of "Kum-ba-yah"?!?
