From the Cathedral where I sing. Tenors and basses are especially sought:
The Cathedral of Saint Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet, Illinois is currently holding auditions for experienced singers in all voice parts for the 2015–2016 season. The Cathedral Choral Scholars form the core of the Cathedral Choir, and members serve as section leaders in the larger ensemble. Choral Scholars also sing as a stand-alone ensemble on occasion, and repertoire spans the centuries from Medieval chant to the finest sacred choral music of our own time. The new choir season begins in mid-September 2015, and extends through the end of May 2016.
Interested singers must have excellent sight-reading, tuning, and leadership skills, and must be available for Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter, in addition to regular weekly services throughout the nine-month choir season. There are generally two choral calls per week, including a Thursday evening rehearsal and a Sunday morning rehearsal & liturgy, plus extra calls for concerts and large diocesan liturgical events throughout the year. The complete 2015–2016 choir schedule is available on request.
The Choral Scholar stipend is very competitive, and additional stipended opportunities abound for singers who wish to serve as cantors for weddings, funerals, and other Cathedral liturgies. To apply for a position in the Cathedral Choral Scholars, please send résumés to Director of Music Dr. Randall Swanson at cathedralmusicjoliet@gmail.com
