All the other books I was selling last week were snatched up quickly, but so far there's been less interest in the Cistercian books. And yet, these are some of the most beautiful and most rare that I have ever seen.
If you might be interested, please contact me -- or if you can think of anyone (monk, chant scholar, medievalist, liturgist) who might be interested, please send a note in his or her direction.
You could try the Medieval Musicology site: http://gregorian-chant.ning.com There's some specialist interest groups there, including one on Cistercian chant.
If you want a Cisterican Chant book, why not look at a modern one which is actually in print? If you visit the bookshop, sorry the Klosterladen at Heiligenkreuz Abbey just outside Vienna, you can buy a very nice Cisterican Psalter (in Latin, all Offices spread over 2 weeks) for just under Eur50+postage. ISBN 978-3-902694-83-6. The hymn tunes are great.
In my experience, some of these chant books from German speaking countries are also available from non-German online booksellers - the magnificent Antiphoners from Munsterschwarzach Abbey certainly are.
@wjcb112 "why not look at a modern one" pffff modern! Not traditional! Liturgy created at office desk! (insert random rant at reformed liturgy and excuse a troll who doesn't know how to make his trolling purple)
Thank you very much, I haven't had a clue that this is available.
@wjcb112 "why not look at a modern one ..." (2nd take) Do you know that the psalter distribution used in Heiligenkreuz (and reflected in the splendid little volume available at the monastery shop) isn't used in any other Cistercian monastery?
