The candidate will plan for and develop the music ministry of the church and also plan for and develop the music program in the parish school, Sacred Heart Academy (“Academy”). He/she should be an accomplished organist and able to lead a choir from the bench. He/she will be present at the four weekend Masses: the Vigil Mass on Saturday, the two morning Masses on Sunday, and the Extraordinary Form of the Mass on Sunday (mid-day). He/she will also be responsible for the music for all Feast days, holidays, funerals, weddings, and other special events held at the church.
The candidate will work as a teacher in the Academy for grades five through twelve. The Academy duties include: (1) working closely with the Provost to develop a music curriculum consistent with the Academy’s Catholic classical curriculum; (2) work closely with all faculty on ministering to the students.
This will include, but is not limited to, instructing in a classroom environment during the Academy hours and directing musical programs for students (daytime and evening).
CHARACTER AND NATURE OF THE POSITION: The candidate must be a Catholic in good standing with the Church, a person of character and integrity who views this position as a calling from God. The candidate will have technical mastery of the various aspects in his/her area of expertise and a desire to assure that all involved in the worship and music ministry realize their maximum potential through effective leadership and training. The candidate would minister in such a way that people feel encouraged and appreciated in their ministry.
REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a multi‐talented musician. The candidate should have practical experience in planning liturgical music, hiring singers and instrumentalists when needed, and working with the clergy in organizing the ministry. He/she must have the flexibility to work with all age groups. An appreciation for the tradition of the Church with regard to liturgical music, as well as recent Magisterial teaching on the use of music in liturgy, is necessary, as is an ease and familiarity with Gregorian Chant.
RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Coordinate with Pastor the general and specific types of service music, and other special participation, to be used in order that the liturgies may be coherent and that soloists, ensembles, and instrumentalists may be adequately prepared for such services. 2. Aid in the development of the music curriculum for Academy students and instruct students in grades five through twelve in the Academy during and after Academy hours (evening and weekend events). 3. Meet weekly with the choirs for rehearsal. 4. Identify, recruit, and train gifted individuals, and encourage those persons as they become involved in the music ministry (including, but not limited to, volunteer musicians, cantors, and lectors). 5. Oversee and assure maintenance and care of all equipment for his/her area of ministry as well as suggesting equipment needs for his/her area of ministry. 6. Prepare an annual budget request and maintain all music accounts. 7. Any other duties consistent with the nature of this position that may arise.

Before this gets stickied and closed (and my comment likely deleted) :-) I just want to say I'm SO HAPPY to see this job posting - I went here for EF Mass several weeks ago and was quite disappointed that there was no music!
