I have been trying to figure out why some of the days on the USCCB Roman Liturgical Calendar are marked red [August calendar: http://bit.ly/1w22r2l].
At first I thought it was because the Gospel was proper, as it is for example on the "Memorial of the Passion of Saint John the Baptist" on August 29. But that doesn't fit because on September 20th, the "Memorial of Saint Andrew Kim Tae-gŏn, Priest, and Paul Chŏng Ha-sang, and Companions, Martyrs" the readings are not proper.
